Over 992 cases have been reported in Michigan alone, with hundreds more in nearby Ohio. Investigations into similar illnesses are ongoing in 28 other states.
However, tracing the source of cyclospora surges can be challenging because contaminated produce often ends up in both grocery stores and restaurants, making it difficult to determine where tainted food originated.
